In a 2010 visit to Belgium, I was mesmerized by the city on the water, Bruges (click for map). Bruges, or “Bridges” in English, is the laid back other ‘Venice of the North,’ the first being Amsterdam, and is intertwined with myriad slow moving canals, and dotted with fine examples of medieval architecture. In fact, the historic city center is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
I highly recommend sometime visiting this magical, fairy tale city.
